What is “Bars For Blogging”?
Bars For Blogging is a human rights campaign advocating for 3 prisoners of conscience in Vietnam. Nguyễn Đặng Minh Mẫn, Đặng Xuân Diệu, and Hồ Đức Hoà were arbitrarily detained in 2011. Through taking photos and blogging online, they sought to raise awareness about social issues in Vietnam that range from poverty to freedom of expression. The Vietnamese Communist Party deemed such community work a challenge to its authority and sentenced these 3 to the longest prison terms out of 14 other activists detained at the time.
4 years after the mass crackdown in 2011, Nguyễn Đặng Minh Mẫn, Đặng Xuân Diệu, and Hồ Đức Hoà are the only ones still imprisoned and confined in poor prison conditions.
As in the video, please share your message of support to political prisoners in Vietnam and advocate for their release.
